NBA Countdown Intro

Gold is synonymous with glitz and glamour and overall with being triumphant. It became a perfect companion to hype the NBA Playoff games.

About the project

ESPN creative director Jeremy Anderson approached us with an idea for the 2017 NBA playoffs and finals.

The Process

NBA Countdown is the pre-game show that airs prior to each game on ABC and ESPN. Revolving around the Larry O’Brien championship trophy, the premise of the idea was to film vignettes of gold clad props and scenery that could be used for montages to craft intro videos for the show.

Art direction was the focus of the project, from props to make up to the building of a regulation size half court, the set up was paramount. Filming against a black backdrop, all the gold glistened in all it’s luster. This project employed a full crew in art, make up and hair, camera, and grip and lighting.

The Result

Throughout the 2017 NBA playoffs, starting with the conference finals, various versions of the intro were telecast nationally on ABC and ESPN. Each version was edited to reflect the game that was set to air after the pre-game show.
